Unimoni Man of Match: Wasim Butt of KICC

KICC made the best of arriving early in Jinja on a very wet Sunday morning with two big victories against the home sides.  KICC won the toss and opted to bat first in the morning game against Jinja SSS and brilliant team effort saw them post a commanding 174 for 9, Suleiman Sharif (22) and Arthur Ziraba (39) opened the batting for KICC and the two laid the foundation for the innings.  The dismissal of the two openers put brakes on the carnage but some lower order hitting propelled the score 174.

In the chase the KICC spin attack never allowed Jinja SSS any chance of overhauling the total with Davis Karashani (2/19), Frank Nsubuga (2/14) and Mohsin Riaz (1/9) working in tandem to frustrate Jinja SSS. The School boys could only manage 129 all out giving KICC a deserved 51 run win.

The second game in the afternoon was a new T20 record in three aspects of the game, Sulaiman Sharif and Wasim Butt shared a record opening stand of 200 runs, Wasim Butt (172) scored the highest individual total by any batsman in the record of the league and the KICC team total of 266 was the highest by a team in the history of the t20 league. In the only reward for JACC were the two KICC wickets with the youngsters given a cricket lesson.

Wasim Butt receives his Man of Match award for his record 172

With 267 needed for the win by JACC, the writing was on the wall already and nothing would ruin a perfect day for KICC.

JACC couldn’t even manage Wasim Butt’s individual total of 172 as they were stream rolled by the spin of Davis Karashani and Irfan Afridi. Team Captain Hanumant Katkar did not miss out on the fun as well as his medium pacers snared three wickets.

Wasim Butt was deservedly awarded the Man of Match award for his swash buckling 172 off only 72 balls with KICC firmly at the top of Group A.

KICC have been very competitive in the T20 league and have featured in two finals even though they are yet to taste success.
